Update for June 22, 2006

CCSP -No till Farm

News for the Week:

Hi,

Another good growing week.  Spring wheat has headed out and folicur was put on.  As dry as it has been one would not expect a fungus problem.  I have recently heard extension people say the spores are out there so you should be using a fungicide if you want to manage that risk.  Our corn is coming on nicely.  We have a lot of critters reducing the stand. Rabbits, pheasants, gophers and so forth.  We probably need to employ a full time hunter! It is interesting that the corn planted in the mud, just before all the gauge wheels plugged up, looks the best.  One of the board members and I were discussing this, to which he remarked that the wetness is a mechanical problem.  If we can get a planter to plant in these conditions, the seed will do just fine.

Our field day is July 13. We would be happy if you could make it.  We will show the good, the bad and the ugly. This is how we all learn to do better.

Have a good week.
