rainfall demonstrator. Over 2 inches of simulated rain was applied to
several types of systems.
For our field day this year we brought together an outstanding group
of speakers who took realtime hands on presentations right from our
plots.

Lundgren, Brookings ARS give an in-field presentation on predatory
insects and their role in keeping the bad guys out of your field.
Jeff Hemenway, NRCS South Dakota state agronomist brought a
rainfall simulator to demonstrate and discuss the effect of residue
on preventing soil erosion and also showing how tillage reduces
water infiltration and increases runoff. Joel Ransom discussed the
NDSU spring wheat and winter wheat variety trials which are a new
addition to the farm this year. Lee Briese and Peder Gulleson
showed off our interplant cover crops in corn and talked about
cover crops and soil salinity. Mick Kjar did his Farm Talk show live
during the afternoon. A great meal was served afterward. We want to thank all our sponsors

They explained the benefits of radish planted as a cover crop. The
roots went to the bottom of the 40 inch soil pit.
