CCSP -No till Farm
Greetings,
The Field Day coming next Thursday has been our main Focus, but finishing the farm work had the priority. We did a lot of spraying the last week. Select on the flax, Prosaro on the spring wheat, Round Up on the corn and beans, and burndown on the radish trial. The corn was growing fast so it was time to make the last Round Up pass. Weed control was good, but the edge issue I have with the alleys almost requires extra sprays. The beans were also holding very well, but the few scattered ones always seem to make a mess, and with an absolutely perfect day to spray on Thursday it hit everything. Overall, the plots are starting to look nice. The year has not been kind, and there are drown outs, and foxtail barley is especially aggressive as I have mention before. The wheat will need some extra attention. There are several products out there that do have activity and I will have to research which ones have the best fit with planting cover crops following the wheat. Rimfire from Bayer did a nice job on 3 plots I used it on, but may have issues with cover crops.
Corn is growing well, but I don't even want to look how far behind it is on heat units. I think last year at Field Day were were not far from tassleing. Not even close this year. The winter wheat is starting to turn, Spring just flowering. Beans are small. I saw the first flax flower a couple days ago.
As you can see in the pictures below, we got the radish trial first passes down on Wednesday. Our goal is to see if there and any difference between named and unnamed diakon radish. We plan to plant two passes with our 8 row planter each week. Names include Tillage, Groundhog, Defender, Graza, Jackhammer, Mid-Wood, NItro, and the good old VNS or Variety not Specified. We will keep you posted with Pictures and comments.
Remember the Field day is next Thursday, July 14 starting at 3:00. Poster on the Home page has the details. It's a great time to come out and enjoy the evening. If rain, we can go in the Dakota Plains (formerly Cenex) shop.
Have a good week.

The corn was just starting to look good and growing fast, perfect for green snap.
The wheat looks to have faired better.
You can still see hail bruising on the spring wheat below.
The low spots are filled with water, again.
